The OSU Web Templates: Overview

The OSU Web template includes the following features:

  • OSU banner: a standardized treatment and placement of the OSU logo and tagline (required)
  • Standardized treatment and placement of global and site-specific navigation elements, site title, heads, subheads, primary content, contact information, and photo elements (optional)
  • Preferred font families (optional)
  • Color palette (optional)
  • Style sheets that ensure optimal display on a range of browsers and platforms (optional)

(View a sample template showing the features described above.)

The OSU Web template is designed to be flexible enough to meet the needs of a complex research, teaching and outreach institution that has many constituencies. With only one required element (the OSU banner), the template allows for maximum customization.

With an intuitive new tool called template builder, you can create a custom template within minutes. The tool allows you to select as many of the optional features as you like. The coding is built automatically and is ready to use. You can then take this shell and add other features and content using your usual Web authoring tools.

Who should use the OSU Web templates?

Recommended

  • Oregon State University colleges, departments, libraries, administrative and service units, research centers, institutes and programs, Extension and extended education units, and other official units and programs of the university
  • OSU-Cascades Campus
  • Primary constituent organizations: e.g., Faculty Senate, Professional Faculty Leadership Association, Office Personnel Association, and Faculty Women's Network

*Note: the OSU logo banner is the only element of the OSU Web template that is required. The rest of the template components are optional.

Optional

  • Professional Web pages created for faculty, administrators, and staff and hosted on university servers. The templates must not be used on non-OSU-related personal Web pages of university employees.
  • Web pages of educational and research consortia headquartered at Oregon State University (but not solely OSU entities), to indicate their OSU affiliation
  • Web pages consisting of class content for current OSU students
  • Archives and collections of photographs, diagrams and charts, database results, and PowerPoint presentations. The template should be used on the home page for these archives and collections, but use is optional for the pages that actually display the individual elements.
  • Internal employee organizations

May not be used

  • Any Web page not affiliated officially with the university
  • Web pages of registered OSU student organizations
  • Non-OSU-related personal Web pages of university employees or students
  • University Web pages on sites provided through a commercial entity such as FansOnly for Beaver Athletics. The appropriate university logo or Athletic Beaver logo may be used to communicate an OSU affiliation only if OSU has full control of the content.
