McKenzie River Raft Trip, June 20, 1998

Our first annual raft trip was held on June 20, 1998 at the McKenzie River, central Cascades, Oregon.  Gordon Grant, USFS hydrologist and OSU professor, was our trip leader.  We enjoyed some wonderful whitewater and water fights on a nice hot day.   Gordon pointed out some of the geologic features along the channel and we stopped to look at islands that form by accretion of log jams at their upstream ends.  The raft trip was a wonderful way to end the first year of Hydrophiles, and we look forward to another trip in 1999, perhaps a 2-day trip with bigger rapids on the North Umpqua River.
