  1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of 10/7/99 were revised and will be reviewed at the next meeting.

  2. REPORT FROM ACADEMIC AFFAIRS:

    1. Leslie Burns reported that Professional Technical Education and the use of the Professional Technical title/CIP number has been discontinued as a result of action taken by the Graduate Council. Each of the licensure areas of concentration under this umbrella program title, i.e., Agriculture, Business, Family and Consumer Sciences, Marketing and Technology, will be assigned its own unique CIP and SIS Banner major number.

  3. REPORT FROM THE CHAIR:

    1. Leonard Friedman reported that the Curriculum Council is still in need of another undergraduate student representative. As the Faculty Senate Executive Committee liaison, Bob Burton offered to look for candidates and steer them to ASOSU to fill out appropriate forms so they may be considered by the Faculty Senate.

  4. OLD BUSINESS

    1. The revisions to the proposed options for the Forest Recreation Resources Major were approved by the Curriculum Council with the exception of the Law Enforcement Option (98-C535). The Council requested more clarification and information on this proposal. The options that were approved were: Sociology (98-C530), Cultural Resource Management (98-C531), Environmental Resource Interpretation (98-C532), Forest Resources (98-C533), Landscape Design (98-C534), Public Administration (98-C536), Resource Planning (98-C537), and Tourism (98-C538).

  5. NEW BUSINESS

    1. Gary DeLander from the College of Pharmacy presented the Category I proposal to establish two new departments within the College: the Department of Pharmacy and the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The Council approved the proposal with a strong recommendation that an alternate name for the Department of Pharmacy be considered.

    2. At the request of the Faculty Senate Executive Committee, Tony Korwin from Information Services, presented information for the Council's consideration on the issue of "course branding". In order to obtain computer based training (CBT) certifications for Information Services personnel, non-credit courses may be purchased from a company for use on campus. For additional money, these non-credit courses may be accessible to students on and off-campus. A user fee would be charged and the company would receive $10 per student per course. The University has the option to "brand" the offerings by putting OSU's name on it. OSU also has the option to either manage the web pages or have the company manage the pages. Discussion ensued and will continue at the next meeting.

  6. ACTIONS OF THE COUNCIL VIA EMAIL - all proposals are viewable on the World Wide Web, OSU Curriculum Home page: http://osu.orst.edu/dept/academic/aa/curric/
