  1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of 2/11/99 were approved.

  2. REPORT FROM ACADEMIC AFFAIRS:

    1. Leslie Burns reported that the Oregon University System Academic Council approved the Category I proposals for the Delivery of a Baccalaureate Degree (B.S.) in Natural Resources as a Statewide Program extended to off-campus sites, and the Delivery of a Baccalaureate Degree in Environmental Sciences as a Statewide Program extended to off-campus sites. Our participation in the joint program in the Oregon Master's of Software Engineering - with the University of Oregon, Portland State University, Oregon Graduate Institute was also approved.

    2. The State Board of Higher Education approved the Category I proposal for a Master's of Science in Applied Physics.

    3. The external review and site visit are being organized for the Category I proposal for the Master's in Business Information Systems with an Option in Financial Systems and Analysis.

  3. REPORT FROM THE CHAIR:

    1. Bob Burton reported that several comments have been from department chairs and deans received in response to the proposal from Distance and Continuing Education to revise how courses are approved for scheduling through DCE. Bob Burton will work with DCE in revising the proposal.

    2. A letter was received by the Faculty Senate Committee on Committees requesting review of our Standing Rules. This will be an upcoming agenda item.

  4. NEW BUSINESS

    1. The Council discussed the role of liaison among academic units on curriculum proposals including and how to better facilitate liaison and have it be more inclusive. Wording (to be incorporated into the Curricular Procedures Handbook instructions)
      will be developed and presented at the next meeting.

    2. The Council approved a change in wording from Curriculum Council "liaisons" to "representatives", to better reflect the meaning of their role and to reduce confusion with the use of the word "liaison".

    3. Robby Robson, Education Reform Coordinator presented information on PASS (Proficiency-Based Admissions Standards) and how it will affect admission and curriculum.
