I.        APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of 2/15/01 were approved.

II.           REPORT FROM ACADEMIC AFFAIRS: (G. Beach)

    1. A list of likely Proposed Academic Programs for OSU's new branch campus, OSU Central Oregon, was reviewed. Category I approvals will be on a statewide basis.  All of the prescribed review and approval steps will be followed.
    2. A first draft of a branch campus viewbook, prepared by the Office of Admission and Orientation,  is in the works.  At some point a schedule of classes and catalog section will need to be prepared.

III.    REPORT FROM THE CHAIR: (L. Friedman)

    1. The Curriculum Council may need to create a subcommittee to meet during the spring term to evaluate the current OSU Category I review process.
    2. In reply to a questioned posed regarding the awarding of posthumous undergraduate degrees, it has been determined that the Registrar's office has no official policy regarding this matter.

IV.         NEW BUSINESS

    1. The Council deferred discussion of the Category II proposal for the elimination of the Home Economics Core Curriculum until Thursday, March 15.

V.           OLD BUSINESS

    1. The Council discussed the Category I proposal to initiate instruction for a M.S. and Ph.D. degree in Bioresource Engineering.  Several issues were identified which needed further clarification from the proposers.   L. Friedman will contact M. Bothwell.  Further discussion and approval was deferred until the March 15 meeting.
    2. Barbara Moon of Distance and Continuing Education (DCE) was present to discuss the non-credit Professional Certificate programs offered through DCE.  Issues discussed included appropriate curriculum review process, policy, the level of faculty involvement.  The Council will discuss this issue further at the April 26 meeting.
