I.          APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of 10/26/00 were approved with changes.

II.            REPORT FROM ACADEMIC AFFAIRS:

A.       Guidelines for review of Professional Teaching licensure areas is on the Graduate Council agenda today.

B.        The Baccalaureate Core Committee bylaws include a policy to periodically review Baccalaureate Core courses to ensure that they continue to meet the Baccalaureate Core criteria.  This Academic Year (2000-2001) the Baccalaureate Core Committee will review all Writing Intensive Courses approved prior to 1996.  Letters will be sent out in December requesting information by the end of January.

III.         NEW BUSINESS

A.       Bill McCaughan, Dean of Distance and Continuing Education was present to discuss the direction and potential expansion of DCE.  The goal of the discussion was to establish communications about issues that interface between the curriculum process and DCE.  Dean McCaughan will return to an upcoming council meeting for further conversations.

B.        The Council reviewed the Category I proposal for a Master of Public Policy with Brent Steel (Political Science) and Rebecca Warner  (Sociology) present.  The College of Liberal Arts will be the unit awarding the degree.  The submitted budget does not include the library costs.  This Category I Proposal was approved conditionally, dependent upon inclusion of library allocations in the budget and review by the Budgets and Fiscal Planning Committee.

C.       The Council reviewed and approved the Category I Proposal to drop the MS degree in Home Economics. 

D.       The Council reviewed and approved the new Early Childhood Development and Education Option of the Human Development and Family Services (BS) degree program.  There was discussion to confirm that the proposal would not adversely affect current students.
